BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (AP) ? One person has been killed in a storm system that produced several possible tornadoes throughout the Southeast.
The person was killed in north Georgia when a tree fell on a sport utility vehicle, according to Capt. Tim House of the Forsyth County sheriff’s office. The storms have damaged dozens of homes and buildings in at least three states. At least 16 people have been hurt, though only a couple of them had to be taken to the hospital.
Forecasters say a cold front stretching from the Gulf of Mexico to the Northeast was to blame. Temperatures dropped in some areas from the low 70s to the 50s as the front passed, and winds gusted to near 30 mph (50 kilometer).
